Keeping Busy!

Hello everyone!

It has been great catching up with all your families, speaking with you and hearing how well you are doing, not only with your home learning, but also lots of varied activities. We’re so proud of you all!

We have updated the Home Learning page for Reception to include a ‘Minibeasts’ project, together with loads of creative activities linked to this topic. There are also activities on the Oak National Academy link too. Take a look and have a go!

Many years ago people began celebrating VE Day, this means ‘Victory in Europe Day’. This celebration remembers a very special time and thanks many people who helped us all those years ago. This Friday will be VE Day. Celebrations this year could be having a VE Day picnic in your garden with your family, decorating your home in red, white and blue, making your very own bunting or baking a special cake. It would be lovely, if you have any photos of this celebration to send them in.

Below are some lovely photographs of some of the amazing things you have been busy doing. Please do feel free to send in photographs to postbox@rushall.walsall.sch.uk. We love to see how you are getting on and will include them on our blog, for your friends to see too.

Aaryan and Rohan have been so busy, with all their home learning. They have also been sowing sunflower seeds, which will look wonderful when they grow. Aaryan and Rohan have painted a beautiful rainbow and created amazing models. They have been busy writing lovely messages for mommy and daddy, helping to cook and having a great time in the sun!

Ella has been exploring her garden for our ‘Growth’ topic, looking for insects and plants. She found a beautiful camellia flower and a caterpillar. Ella has found some more creatures for our ‘Minibeasts’ topic and made some wonderful snail models and colourful prints. Ella, those cookies look delicious!

Eddie has been playing board games, spending lots of time outside helping Nanny to plant vegetables and tidy her plant pots and has enjoyed baking. Eddie and his sister Layla performed a Jack and the Beanstalk play for Mommy and Daddy too.

Frankie made an Easter bonnet and Easter cake. She enjoyed making tickets to bring the cinema into her home. Frankie has been doing her home learning and she has also made some fantastic Hungry Caterpillar models using salt dough as part of her ‘Growth’ project. Frankie, you’ve been very busy making play dough pizza and a lovely birthday card for Nanny.

Sydney-Ann has been super busy with her family. She has been working hard with her home learning. Sydney-Ann has also found out about static electricity whilst playing on the trampoline! As part of our ‘Growth’ project Sydney-Ann’s family have made vegetable plots, learning how to look after the vegetables as they grow. Sydney-Ann has also found some interesting creatures in her garden, including Cyril the squirrel!

Maxwell sends a lovely message, thank you Maxwell, that’s very kind.

Take care everyone,

Mrs West and Mrs Lloyd xx

Happy Easter!

Hello Reception!

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you are all safe and well. It has been a while since we saw your lovely faces and heard your happy chatter and laughter. We do miss you all and look forward to when we can all be together again safely.

We hope you have been enjoying the activities we sent home with you. We would love to see how you’re keeping busy in other ways too. Please do tell us what you have been up to by sending us lovely photos and messages to our school email at postbox@rushall.walsall.sch.uk.

When we are not doing our own school work these are some of the things Mrs Lloyd and I have been getting up to …..

At home, I’ve been helping my boy with his school work, which has kept us very busy! We’ve played board games like Monopoly, Guess Who? and Cluedo. Have you played games too?

We’ve also been out everyday for some fresh air and exercise by going for a walk, staying well and safe by keeping our distance from other people. I’ve been very busy in my garden, digging, tidying up and cutting the long grass!

When outside I’ve seen and heard lots of insects and birds visiting my garden. Have you seen any insects or birds? Do you see any flowers and plants in your garden or out of your window? Maybe you would like to draw a picture, or tell us about what you have seen.

Mrs Lloyd says she misses you all too. She is keeping busy helping her girls with their school work, crocheting, knitting, walking once a day, gardening….and skateboarding! Wow Mrs Lloyd!

Take care everyone and have a very happy Easter!

All the very best,

Mrs West and Mrs Lloyd xxxx 🌸🌼🌻🐣 🛹

We love reading!

In Reception, we just adore reading. This term we are looking at different traditional tales. We love these tales that have grown from oral story telling – that means stories that were passed on from person to person before they were written down into the tales we know now.  One of our favourites is Goldilocks.

Playing in our very own porridge factory!

After we read the story we decided to make our own Porridge Factory to play in.We really enjoyed making and creating our Porridge Factory. We spent time painting and collaging our porridge bowls and spoons in three different sizes, and then the four characters we needed.

We have loved acting out our stories, and it inspired us to bring in our own favourite books from home for us to read together at the beginning and end of the day.

Here are a few of the books we have brought in to read.

Thank you to all the grown ups who have helped us choose books to bring in to school!

Chinese New Year

We enjoyed hearing about Chinese New Year, learning about how each yeas are named after a different animal. The order was decided by all the animals having a race to see who would be first. This year is the Year of the Rat. We spent time with our buddy class, and tasted some Chinese food. We also opened our fortune cookies, reading the message inside. They were full of wise thoughts about trying hard and doing our best.

We watched Chinese dragon dances on our interactive white board. We loved the dances we saw that were taking place in New York – some of the dragons even lit up! We decided to make our own dragon, and dance around a school visiting all the different classes.

We stuck, painted, collaged and glittered until our dragon head was finished. We chose green fabric to hide under to be our body.

Some children were the dragon and some children played musical instruments to accompany the dance.
We really enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year!

Nocturnal Animals

Over the last few weeks we have spent some time each morning listening to stories and learning facts about various animals. We learned that the badger and the fox are nocturnal animals. This means they are awake at night and sleep during the day. We think that is very exciting!!! We wondered what other animals were nocturnal, and have discovered that bats and hedgehogs are too!! We hope to discover even more about nocturnal animals.

We have enjoyed spending some of our busy time looking at the books in more detail, and asking questions about them.

We have spent time making beautiful collages of our family group animals that we have put up in the Gym. If you haven’t already seen them, you’ll be able to at our Harvest Festival!

We made a beautiful moon to shine on our lovely animals and painted labels for them too.

We also made an amazing discovery of our own!! A family of hedgehogs are living very close to us, and we got the chance to have a little look at them. We were very quiet so we didn’t frighten them………

Lastly, we are going to have a special visitor very soon – from Snuffles Hedgehog Rescue Centre. We can’t wait!!!!

Our first weeks……

Hello and welcome to Reception! We have been very busy over the last few weeks, settling into our new classroom, and enjoying lots of different activities. We thought you might like to see a few of the things that we have been doing…….

We enjoy being creative. We have used beans, chalk, pencil, pens and paint to mark-make and create beautiful pictures. We have also drawn, painted and collaged some fantastic art work for our corridor display – have you seen our amazing hedgehog collage and paintings yet?

We enjoy imaginative play. We like to dress-up, to act out real life activities in our role play areas, to build places and buildings, and to sing and make music!

We absolutely adore playing outside – we balance, throw and catch, role play picnics and shops, ride our bikes, play on stilts…… the list is endless.

We have also spent time creating self-portraits to put on the wall – we looked very carefully at our faces and features first, and then tried to make our paintings look exactly the same.

We are really enjoying our time in Reception, and are looking forward to showing you more of what we have been doing very soon!!!
